First, take a walk around the exterior of your home and look for holes and voids in the joints of the home, in the roof soffit, and around penetrations, pipes and venting coming through the walls. Look for larger cracks and holes in the foundation or near the sill plate. Most voids can be sealed with caulk or other inexpensive home repair products. You may need to use a more in-depth approach if you find larger holes and voids. One material that rodents do not like is construction grade steel wool. Packing holes with steel wool will keep rodents out as it irritates their face and they cannot chew through it. Because rodents have cartilage and not bone, they can fit through spaces that are a quarter of an inch wide. Therefore it is important that even the small cracks are sealed.
Secondly, on the interior of your home be sure that where you live is sealed from the voids and spaces in the drywall. Inspect your home for holes in the walls, openings under your sinks, around plumbing penetrations and any voids that there might be in the floors. Seal up all holes and voids to prevent rodents from getting into your living spaces through your walls.
Last, take a peek up in your attic and look for little running paths in the insulation. Rodents will create runs as they follow one another in search for food and lodgings. Look for rodent fecal matter which will tell you if you have had mice in your attic. Making sure you do not have a current rodent infestation will help decide what type of rodent treatment Columbus Ohio you need.
While rodents may seem like creatures that only crawl along the ground, they are fabulous climbers. They can scale surfaces that are smooth and can very easily climb up the siding of your home. Rodents also find easy ways into your home by trees that are near your home. Cutting back tree limbs and keeping landscaping off of your home will help to make it a bit more difficult for the rodents to enter.
Pre-treating for rodents can help stop an invasion in its tracks. Setting traps around your home is time consuming and requires a lot of manual labor. You are constantly checking, resetting, and disposing of deceased rodents. Restoration Pest Management takes the approach of baiting. This requires very little attention and requires only checking the stations four times per year. Placing bait stations around the exterior of your home can give the mice a food source they can get with very little effort. With a food source easily at their disposal they will not need to forage for food in your home. By the time they eat the bait, they will not have the energy to burrow into your home.
If you already have an active infestation, we will also add interior rodent stations. The baits that we use are not secondary toxins, meaning that according to the label they will not harm larger animals that may eat the poisoned rodents. These chemicals also dehydrate the rodents and they will make their way outside to find a water source.
